Travel Spotlight: Abu Dhabi
There’s nothing quite like taking a luxurious vacation. It is the perfect way to unwind from the stresses and strains of your daily life. If you’re trying to think of somewhere exotic to spend a little time, Abu Dhabi may be the perfect place.
This city of the United Arab Emirates is the second largest, with a population of over 921, 000. It is also the centre of government and one of the wealthiest cities in the UAE, making up 56.7% of the annual GDP. What does that mean for travellers? There are a number of elaborate resorts and hotels to stay at. Visitors are sure to be pampered and experience the beauty of this multi-cultural city.
So, what can you do in Abu Dhabi? There are many different attractions, activities, shops, and restaurants to take up your time. Let’s take a look at the most notable! When it comes to recreational activities, swimming is a must. With hot temperatures throughout the city, you’ll want to cool off in the pool. Just about every single hotel offers large swimming areas, so make the most of it! You may also want to take advantage of the incredible desert by going for a guided camel ride, dune bashing, or see the sights from an unforgettable helicopter tour.
When it comes to local attractions, there are so many that you can see. One of the most popular is the Sheikh Zayed Mosque. It is the 6th largest mosque in the world and you can get there by taking the bus. Keep in mind that non-Muslin access is restricted to certain times. Be sure to ask at your hotel before you head down there. If you want a spectacular view of the waterfront, check out the Corniche. Certain areas have beaches and there are attractions like go-carting and live entertainment. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon. There are a number of elaborate parks to visit as well. If you go to the Khalifa Park, it includes a museum, aquarium, train, and flower gardens.
For a little shopping, there are (almost too many!) malls you can spend a little time in. Some of the most notable are the Abu Dhabi Mall, the Khalidiya Mall, the Marina Mall, and the Al Wahda Mall. Each of these are large, some even take up several stores, and offer a mixture of high-end shops and extensive dining options. Whether you want familiar food or something a little more local, you’ll be able to find it in one of these food courts. When you’re shopping in Abu Dhabi, it won’t be hard to find some great things to take home with you! Keep in mind that when you shop, you will likely be followed around the store. This has to do with the custom of the area. Rather than make you feel awkward, this signals good customer service.
With so much to do and see in Abu Dhabi, it is no wonder that it is becoming such a popular tourist destination. Save your money before you head here though
